December 7, 2007
Jet was my youngest member of my family. At only 2 1/2 years old, Jet was sent to the Bridge today.
I woke up this morning, and Jet was not coming for his breakfast. After a thorough search throughout the house, I finally found him behind the couch (not uncommon for him). I dragged him out, but he didn't look very good. So I held him on my lap and stroked him for a while. When he finally decided to move, his hind quarters would not move. It was completely paralized.
I have no idea what happened to him, but it happened overnight. He did not get injured anywhere. There was no physical trama to him. Everything structurally felt fine.
I brought him to the vets this morning for an exam. As soon as the vet checked him out, he told me that his hind quarters are completely dead with no response at all. The doctor believes that Jet may have had a stroke or thrown a blood clot, causing a blockage of oxygen and/or blood to his spinal cord. His recommendation was to have him PTS, as recovery was slim to none.
So, after only 2 years of time with me ... Jet is gone.
Jet is a old Black domestic short hair. Jet came to live with me in September 2005 at the age of 4 months. My neighbor runs a small rescue out of her work and had a hard time adopting out Jet because he is an all-black kitty. Apparantly, people don't like black cats. But since he had a very out-going, crazy-like personality, I knew he would fit right in to my home. And that he did. Jet has not stopped running since. He is non-stop running....... thus his name "Jet".
From the moment Jet came to my home, he took an instant liking to my Black Great Dane, Samson. The two are very fond of each other.
